Tools for Parents and Teachers
A centerpiece of the program is teaching a participant how to make their own videos, helping them work on their challenges and learning how to regulate their feelings and actions so they can move more easily and mainstream into society at large. My Voice, My Video, My Solution™ will offer a book, an interactive online e-book, and an app allowing young people to share their stories and the videos they make. On-going support for parents and their children is provided by expert clinicians and educators who will conduct interactive workshops for families, young people and others with in person, video streams and on-demand presentations.
The program develops literacy skills, self-expression, acting, script writing, producing and other video making skills. Also, participants can use self-made audio recordings, memes (picture with a saying or caption on it), self-affirmations and reminders to help guide them as well.
We’ve found creating videos—the life skills required and the self-examination that is an integral part of the production process—can be a key to young people realizing their potential. However, video making isn’t our only tool. In fact, we have developed an entire toolbox of strategies and suggestions to assist personal growth.
Regardless of age, gender or learning style, these techniques and strategies have proven to be successful for many young people and are wonderful resources for ongoing issues or challenges that appear on the road to independence and adulthood. Each tool can be tailored to support individual needs.
Here are a few examples—videomaking often will complement these approaches to problem solving and improving life skills:
